Together with environmental concerns, in the construction and inauguration of the Artxanda Tunnels, the most important objective is absolute safety.

A specific plan for the tunnels, approved by the Provincial Government of Bizkaia, encompasses information, communication, surveillance, safety and control, developed simultaneously with the construction project. All of the systems are be managed from the Control Centre, located in a unique building at the toll collection area.

The EuroTAP project has evaluated 49 tunnels in 14 different European countries -among them, eight are in Spain-, and has granted the Artxanda Tunnels the highest qualification as far as security is concerned.
